Turf Care Guide
Preparing for Your New Turf
The type and quantity of top soil required for turf is very important as this will create the foundation for which the roots of your new turf will establish into. It is advisable to have at least 10cm of well worked soil. This can be achieved by rotary hoeing the existing soil. If there is minimal soil or you have poor quality soil, or a heavy clay base then additional good quality loamy top soil is required. A general rule is the more the better. This is because, if you install turf on top of a very small amount of soil, the roots of the turf dont have anywhere to go. This will not only comprise the establishment and growth efficiency of your lawn but will affect its drought tolerance and hard watering capabilities. Once soil is down, make sure the entire area is covered to ensure a smooth, even surface and allow about 2.5cm below paths or driveways for the thickness of the turf so it ends up flush.
